  1. Title: Sarah Palins hand notes

Sarah Palin spoke at the tea party convention last weekend, and in the process revealed a little trick she uses for public speaking: Writing crib notes on her hand. In these AP photos we can see the words "Energy," "Tax cuts" (budget cuts was crossed out) and "Lift American spirits" scrawled on her palm. This might not have struck a cord with funny folks had she not mocked President Obama's use of a teleprompter during her speech. Suffice to say she was the butt of many jokes this week, being mocked by political and media figures alike. Vote for which one you like the best.

    STATE

    Rate hike draws Obama's attention

For the second time this week, President Barack Obama has pointed to one health insurer's major rate hike in California as a doomy harbinger of rising premiums across America.

Anthem Blue Cross' 30 to 39 percent rate hike in California will affect an unknown number of its 800,000 individual policyholders — the insurer has declined giving specifics. But Obama said the rate hike is a sign of what will happen to many Americans without reform.

"Premiums will continue to rise for folks with insurance, millions more will lose their coverage altogether, our deficits will continue to grow larger," Obama said Tuesday at a White House briefing.

California Insurance Commissioner Steven Poizner announced an inquiry into the rate hike on Monday, which doesn't require the state's approval, to ensure that it abides by state regulation and 70 percent of income from premiums will be directed to medical costs.

  4. Title:Iran warns against expected anti-government protests

(CNN) -- Heightening its warnings as anticipated anti-government protests approach, Iran's government says it will arrest protesters and hold them until April if they disrupt state-sanctioned marches to commemorate the overthrow of the Shah of Iran.

Iran is this week celebrating the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, culminating on February 11 -- a day that marked the end of the country's Western-backed monarchy and the start of an Islamic republic. A coalition of Iranian reformist groups is urging opponents of the regime to stage non-violent protests on Thursday, on the official anniversary of the Shah's ouster.

The so-called Green Movement has been protesting for social justice, freedom and democracy in demonstrations throughout the country since the disputed June president election.
Those arrested for causing "instability," disrupting public order and carrying "extremist signs" linked to the Green Movement will be jailed until at least April 9, the end of the Persian holiday, of Norooz, according to government-run Fars news agency.

The holiday marks the start of spring.

"Given the security plans that the police have taken into consideration for tomorrow's glorious marches; these ceremonies will be held in complete security and calm," Fars quoted an unidentified, informed source as saying Wednesday. "But if some try to misuse the vast participation and presence of the people; the police will deal with them firmly and resolutely."

Anti-government demonstrations began after the disputed June 12 presidential vote, which re-elected hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over main opposition candidate Mir Hossein Moussavi.

Police arrested 4,000 people in the post-election crackdown. At least seven people were killed and hundreds were arrested, witnesses said, as they took to the streets of December 27 during the Shiite Muslim holy period of Ashura.

The Iranian government has denied that its security forces killed anyone and has blamed reformists for the violence.

On Tuesday, an Iranian court sentenced one person to death and eight others to prison for their parts in anti-government demonstrations in December, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

The nine defendants were tried last week over their roles in protests during Ashura, Fars said, quoting the Tehran judiciary's public relations office.

There are now 10 people sentenced to death and awaiting appeal in connection with the protests.

Two men have been executed for participating in anti-government demonstrations, but a lawyer for one of them told CNN her client was already in jail when the protests broke out.

  5. i'm commenting on the [Sarah Pallin] issue.
okay well first of all in my opinion can you Imagine if Obama were being asked questions and someone caught him with "Hope ... Change" on his hand. Its time for her to grow up , She did not do this on a professional level. If she was gonna do this, She should of wrote it on a sticky note or something! If this woman was neervous she should have prepared herself with an outline to take to the podium.
She knew she was going to appear in the media and be viewed by voters. haha I'm not sure how many more times she'll get away with it. But it's embarrassing. (: i am done now.

I'm commenting on the(Iran warns against expected anti-government protest), which I think that it's okay to warn them with arresting so they can behave and not do any damage. But I'm agains that some of them are killed or are sentenced to jail to death, It would be better for just months.Although it's a good strategy to just scare the people and start doing the things right.

  7. I'm commenting on the 'Iran warns against expected government protest'. I feel people have a right to freedom of speech, and I feel the protesters are exercising that right thru protesting. I know different governments have different rules of govern, and it is fair that the Iranian government has warned their people of consequences if they protest; but I feel killing people is a little harsh of a punishment. There need to be a better solution in solving their issues.

  8. I am commenting on (iran warns against excepted anti government protesters) and I think it's prfectly fine what thier doing over there with the security and all that because they seriously don't need people protesting and going all crazy over there right now they have enough 2worry about. But then again it interferes with freedom of speech but then again they probably don't even have that there because it's in Iran that were talking about so yeah. So anyways over all I think it's a good thing that thier doing that.

  9. Title: Biden: US making 'significant progress' on Iran
    Author: The Associated Press
    Publised: 02/14/2010 10:12:52 AM MST
    link:http://www.elpasotimes.com/politics/ci_14401084

WASHINGTON—Vice President Joe Biden says the U.S. had made "significant progress" in addressing Iran's nuclear program.
But former Vice President Dick Cheney says he's not yet persuaded that the Obama administration will do what's necessary to keep Iran from getting nuclear weapons.

Biden says the U.S. has wide support to further U.N. penalties against Iran—and he thinks China, too, will come on board. He also says Iran has made less progress on the nuclear front than claimed.

Cheney says it's good to keep a military option on the table to "give any kind of meaning at all to negotiations over sanctions."

The U.S. and others suspect Tehran is using its civilian nuclear program as a cover to build nuclear weapons. Tehran denies the charge, saying it has only has peaceful intentions.

Biden was on NBC's "Meet the Press," while Cheney appeared on ABC's "This Week."

  10. im talking about the "iran warns against expected anti government protesters. for my opinion i thinks is good but at the same time a bad idea, good, because they can behave themselves by knowing they can go to jail if they have more protestings, but its just not good for the "police" overthere to kill them or all their life in jail, because all of us can have the freedom of speech.

  11. Im commenting on the (Sarah Palins Hand Notes). That was a pretty childish thing she did, I can imagine a kid in grade school pulling something like that. For someone who at a point seemed to be an intelligent being to do something like that is very unprofessional. I think it's funny how nowadays in school they teach us to use index cards not the palm of our hands, I guess in the olden days those particular things didn't matter to them.

  12. The one ive chosen is 'iran warns against expected anti government protesters' and the reason i chose this one is because people know what they do they can get protested or go to prison. Also i dont think its right for them to kill them its better sending them off to prison but its a bad place so it doesnt matter.

  13. im commenting on the Sarah P. issue, i think that it was pretty funny that she actually did something like that. It brings you back to reality that people can sneak their way into things that are important. She diserves to be made fun of. She is werid. lol

  14. im commenting on the sarah palin article its very unprofessional but kind of funny at the same time how she portrays herself as a big professional woman but then she has words and hand notes all over her hands.? she should already know her major talking points and the fact that she needs to resort to writing on her hand like a little third grader makes her a big joke.

  15. Im commenting on Sarah Palin. i think she is very immature. Shes very unreasonable and seriously should just stop what shes doing. She is making a fool out of herself and for people to make fun of her makes perfect sense. haha If she was professional enough she would have memorized everything but she just proves to everybody that she is not, and cant handle her "job." Thats all i have to say.

  16. Sarah Palin should of at least token the time to write some note cards. Been that this was a important speech she should or token it seriosly. Writing on her hand made her seem very taky and unprofesional.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sarah Palin should just use notes. NO one is going to think worse then they already do of her. Her idea though is a good idea if she was trying to cheat on a test. She is known for being dumb though, so why change now.

  18. what i think about the "iran..." is that everyone have the freedom to express themselves and have the right to give ideas. the government is not really doing the right thingby punish them by sending them to jail or killed them. because by doing that its gonna be worst and people are going to defend themselves.
so for my opinion the government shouldn't do anything to the people and letting them have the freedom of speech.
